Why the Source Matters
South Carolina public-record law supplies a path to many records, but the source changes as a case moves forward. The Lancaster County Sheriff's Office operates the Lancaster County Detention Center inquiry for current county custody. The South Carolina Department of Corrections has a separate photo-bearing search for people currently sentenced to its custody. The Lancaster trial Public Index follows court activity after booking, and a focused records request can address a publicly releasable record that is not visible in a live search.
Those boundaries are easy to miss. A booking number is not necessarily a court case number, and an absent roster result does not by itself settle what happened. This site gathers the relevant official links and explains their limits, while leaving records and images with their original custodians.
What the Reference Includes
The main resources are organized by the question being asked rather than by a copied list of names or photographs.
- The county record and custody path, including LCDC search, booking-date queries, court follow-up, and requests to LCSO Records.
- City-specific explanations for Lancaster, Kershaw, and Van Wyck, where the reporting agency may differ but county booking remains centralized.
- Official state-prison, federal, immigration-custody, court, and notification paths when the LCDC roster is not the right system.
- South Carolina public-record, expungement, and correction information based on the law and source policies, not a promise of a particular result.
What We Cannot Do
This is a privately run reference, not a branch of LCSO, LCDC, SCDC, a court, or another government office. It cannot release or hold a person, confirm a live custody status, post bond, file a request, or decide what a court record means.
- Only the responsible agency can confirm current custody, charges as held in its system, or a release status.
- Only a court, clerk, solicitor, or qualified legal professional can address a case or an expungement question in its proper context.
- Only the record custodian can decide which portions of a requested record may be released or redacted.
- Agency addresses, telephone lines, fees, and portal functions can change after publication.
Verify any custody, booking, court, or release detail with the government office that created the record before relying on it.
Search Partners
Some pages include search boxes supplied by outside providers. Those providers control their own results, terms, and prices. If a partner tool leads to a paid enrollment, this site may receive a referral fee that helps support the reference. That relationship does not give this site control over a partner's records or pricing.
